This list is not all inclusive. God in His sovereignty could at any time perform an act of mercy Acts 4:9-10, and give healing.
On our part, we are to exercise discernment to know why someone is sick Hebrews 5:14, I Corinthians 2:14-16, Luke 12:54-56.
We don't need to try to short circuit what God is trying to do in someone's life.
I John 4:1 tells us to discern (try, test, prove) the spirits.
To correctly pray for our own or someone else's sickness, we first need to discern and know what the will of God is in the matter.
Use those in the church with the gift of discernment or the word of knowledge I Corinthians 12:10,8
We need to ask God for wisdom James 1:5
Faith is needed for all these categories Hebrews 4:12
We are saved by faith, live by faith, and die by faith.
Faith believes that God can do anything.
Faith also believes that God knows best.
Praise His name, in all these things we are more than conquerors!
Remember that amongst the largest teaching in the Bible on spiritual gifts, including healing is I Corinthians 13;
Love is the greatest!
be glorified through this obvious miracle.
In John 9:3 Jesus said that the man's blindness was for the glory of God, that people could see God's power.
Doctors and medicine can't cure this category of sickness.
The method God uses to cure this sickness can vary.
He may simply give the cure in answer to the individual's prayer Matthew 21:22; 7:7-11
He may require more than one person praying Matthew 18:19-20
He may use James 5:13-18
He may operate through some who has the gift of healing or miracles Acts 19:11-12, I Corinthians 12:28
The sick person may have a demon possession; if lost, oppression or attack; if saved. Mark 9:17-29.
Jesus gave us His followers that same power to cast out demons Mark 6:7,12,13.
But don't forget that more important than a person's physical healing is their spiritual healing Matthew 18:8-9
II Corinthians 12:7-10 teaches that sometimes God can get more glory from us when we are sick than when we are well.
When people saw Paul's joy and peace in spite of his infirmity, they had to admit he had something superhuman; the
grace and power of God in his life.
The book of Job teaches this principle, Satan told God that the only reason Job served God was because he had
prosperity and health, Job 1:4-10; 13:15; 42:3.
God allowed Job to lose his wealth and health to prove Satan a liar and to get glory to His name. Job showed the devil
and the world that God is worthy of our praise and worship and service no matter what the outward circumstances.
In Paul's case, God chose not to heal him but continued to use his sickness for His glory, Galatians 4:13, doctors and
medicine and prayers could not heal him. II Corinthians 4:7-12, Matthew 16:21, I Peter 1:6-7; 3:14, and
Romans 8:28,35-38.
The Lord disciplines, Hebrews 12:10-11 those He loves.
our attention and bring us to our knees. Once we repent, the sickness is removed because it has accomplished its
purpose. Until we repent, no doctor or medicine can help, because the cause of the illness is not biological, as in #1 but
spiritual.
A survey showed that about 75% of doctors' patients have nothing medically wrong with them but have a psychosomatic
illness. The only cure is repentance and, if necessary, the use of James 5:14-16 ("if he has sinned")
See Psalms 32:3-4, 8-9. One other aspect of this category of sickness is the demonic. Read I Corinthians 5:5 and I
Timothy 1:20
Some say a person just died of old age. But old age signifies deterioration. If it is our time to die, doctors and medicine
can't heal us. Jesus mentioned this sickness in John 11:4.
See also II Kings 13:14,21 and Psalms 90:10.
drugs, alcohol, over exposure, stress, contacting germs, bacteria, etc. I Timothy 5:23
We should take care of our bodies for they are the temple of the Holy Spirit. I Corinthians 6:19-20
Besides personal hygiene, we have doctors, Matthew 9:12, Colossians 4:14, and medicine, Luke 10:34 to help our bodies
back to health for this category of sickness.
If that doesn't work, then the following may apply.
