Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the
church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to
their husbands. 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify
her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor,
without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:22-27 (ESV)
Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by
the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding
of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with
the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. 1 Peter 3:1-4 (ESV)
For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah
obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening.
7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they
are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:5-7 (ESV)
A Godly Wife Is:
1 Submissive
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. (Eph 5:22, ESV)
2 Respectful and pure in conduct
when they see your respectful and pure conduct. (1 Peter 3:2, ESV)
3 Beautiful Inside and Out
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the
hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. (1 Peter 3:3-4, ESV)
A Loving Husband Is:
1 Is not a dictator
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Ephesians 5:25
2 Tells and shows his wife that he loves her
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Ephesians 5:25
3 Gives up his WHOLE life, dying is easy
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Ephesians 5:25
Why... Is this God's plan so that we will be happy?
...they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives... 1 Peter 3:1b
that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:27-28
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 (ESV)
Why we should not get married...
1 To cover up a sin
And when the mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David
had done displeased the Lord. 2 Samuel 11:27 (ESV)
2 Physical attraction without intimate friendship
Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite,Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2
from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for
surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love. 3 He had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines.
And his wives turned away his heart. 1 Kings 11:1-3
3 To Serve God
To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. 1 Corinthians 7:8
Why did God create marriage...
1 Intimacy
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had
formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called
every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for
Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his
ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23
Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were
both naked and were not ashamed. Genesis 2:18-25 (ESV)
2 To keep us from sinning
But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.
1 Corinthians 7:2
3 So we could understand our relationship with him
On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your
name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.
Matthew 7:22-23 (ESV)
